Ray-Ban uses four various kinds of lenses for their sunglasses. The B15 XLT lens, the ray ban 90 off, polarized lenses and normal lenses, which we won’t discuss here because there’s nothing special about the subject (they only come in different colours).
Ray-Ban B15 XLT lenses are brownish in colour, block 100% of all Ultra violet rays and enable only 15% of your visible light to successfully pass through them (that’s an 85% reduction!). These brown lenses also provide a little more contrast by reducing on the quantity of blue light, as opposed to a G15 lens (which is described in the following paragraph). Blue light is very easily captured from the eye and it has the result of softening other colours which are harsher to your vision. To put it differently, by reduction of the volume of blue light, the differences between colours and brightness of objects will be more pronounced.
The G15 XLT lenses have the same properties since the B15 XLT lenses, however they’re of greyish/greenish colour. The G15 lens will be the original aviator lens that this military requested Ray-Ban to formulate. The problem was to design a lens which had been “colour neutral”; to put it differently, a lens that filters light such as the human eye does. If you prefer a lens that provides a little less contrast between colours, then this G15 XLT lens is made for you since it offers similar colour-sensitivity on the eye. Using a lower contrast lens, the visible difference in colour and brightness of objects will be dampened. Consequently the colours you see through these lenses is going to be natural and soft on the eyes.
Both B15 and G15 XLT lenses are made of impact resistant optical glass that is certainly naturally scratch resistant. Quality and stability are remarkable and over time you will notice hardly any fading whatsoever inside the colour.
Polarized lenses essentially trim down the amount of glare created by reflective surfaces like water or other semi-transparent objects, and in many cases some metallic surfaces. Glare means the difficulty of seeing in bright light.
Sunlight, as an example, bounces off surfaces in all of the directions (i.e. vertically, horizontally or diagonally). For individuals that are active from the “horizontal plane”, it implies the bright sunlight bounced horizontally enters the attention inside a similar fashion. This causes the pupils to constrict and significantly reduce contrast. That’s why drivers have difficulty seeing the street prior to them if they’re driving in very sunny conditions (if the sun is before them).
Polarized lenses have got a laminated surface with vertical stripes that create a filter, which effectively omits the horizontally-polarized light and allows only vertically-polarized light in. In other words, should you be on a clear lake you can probably see under the surface or if you’re driving, you may now see ray1ban road ahead.
Some limitations to polarized lenses are that LCD displays can become distorted or maybe you may notice a “rainbow” effect in case your car’s windows are tinted.
All 3 lenses are incredibly useful, in particular the polarized ones, but anticipate paying reasonably limited in the sunglasses.
The lens base simply refers to the base curve or the front curve from the lens measured in “diopters”, and that is a term that basically only matters to opticians. You’ll realize that many cheap ray ban sale use a “Lens Base 6”, which basically signifies that they’re sufficiently curved and designed to to perform as sunglasses (i.e., they cover the eyes enough).
Lens size is measured in millimeters and means the length (or width) of just one lens. Bear that in your mind when you make an investment. Many Ray-Ban models can be found in a number of different sizes of lens. Ensure you have the size which fits your skin or you may get a pair of aviator shades that don’t fit properly.
